>怪獸來了！Monsters!
2007動畫影展主題為「Monsters!怪獸！」，自9月28日起至10月7日，將於台北新光影城與華山文化園區展出34個國家、將近700部精采動畫影片！「怪獸」主題影片量佔了本次影展十分之一比重，除了平易近人可愛的怪獸，也有鬼魅般的怪獸，還有難得躍上大螢幕的Blizzard Entertainment®「魔獸世界」系列影片！
Monsters show up in Taipei?! 2007 TIAF theme program is “Monsters”. We have collected many different monsters from lots animations: the grand or the sizable ones, the scary or not so scary ones, Monstrous Creatures in Ray Harryhausen’s Films, the monsters from many countries the monsters on the web, Cinematics and Shorts from famous game World of Warcraft.
(1)魔獸的世界Monsters on the Web: Cinematics and Shorts from Blizzard
這個短片集是暴雪（Blizzard）公司電影部門從1998年到現在的代表作品，展現該公司在敘述故事、藝術特色和技術成就上的能力與進步。暴雪公司所設計的每個遊戲都試圖讓電影短片達到更高的層次。
在《魔獸爭霸II》之後，《暗黑破壞神II》的電影短片是一大進步，而《魔獸爭霸III》將這個標準又往上提高。《魔獸世界》、《魔獸世界：燃燒遠征》與最近的作品《星海爭霸2代》更推向極致，將最新的繪圖運算科技運用到極致，但最終的目的還是在於將科技用於敘述各種角色的史詩故事。
暴雪公司重視遊戲、聲音和電影短片的品質，電影短片的作用在於連結故事，建立場景、驅動遊戲的敘事，也希望藉此獎勵玩家。
This compilation represents the works of the Blizzard Film Department from 1998 through the present day, and demonstrates the company’s abilities and growth in terms of storytelling, artistry, and technological achievements. With every game we do, Blizzard Entertainment tries to take the cinematics to the next level.
The cinematics of Diablo II were a huge step forward from Warcraft II, and Warcraft III raised the bar even higher. The cinematics for World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade pushed the limits even further, leading to the group’s most recent accomplishment, StarCraft II. We’re improving the quality of our cinematics by taking full advantage of the latest video-rendering technologies, but ultimately the main goal is to put all that technology toward crafting an epic story with a terrific cast of characters.
At Blizzard, we're always focused on the quality of every aspect of our products, including the gameplay, sound, and cinematic films. Our cinematics work as story nodes, setting the scene, driving the game narrative forward, and we hope, rewarding players for hours of play.

(2)大怪獸Monsters, the Grand
大怪獸單元蒐集到兩部從日本來的作品，包括去年在金馬影展造成轟動的「盜夢偵探」以及有強大卡司的「勇者物語」。
The Program “Monsters, the Grand” has 2 long animation films from Japan: “Paprika” by Satoshi Kon and “Brave Story” by Kôichi Chigira.

繼《千年女優》、《東京教父》後，今敏一反現實畫風把這個被喻為「不可能映像化」的筒井康隆小說搬上銀幕。精神治療師與天才科學家合力研製出一個可以走入病人夢境進行治療的發明，不料在獲政府批核之前，發明竟被人偷走。「盜夢偵探」自告奮勇調查事件…超現實、精神分析、無意識空間、夢境解構…等深奧概念被今敏玩得出神入化，觀影過程猶如坐雲霄飛車。In the near future, a revolutionary new psychotherapy treatment called PT has been invented to act as a “dream detective” to enter into people's dreams and explore their unconscious thoughts. From the director of Tokyo Godfathers and based on the novel by renowned writer Yasutaka Tsutsui.
勇者物語 / ブレイブ・ストーリー / Brave Story / 千明孝一Kôichi Chigira
改編自作家宮部美幸原著，描述男孩三谷突然面對父親拋家、母親自殺的不幸，他決定進入轉學生滿告訴他的「改變命運之門」，投入神秘世界展開扭轉命運的冒險。配音卡司堅強，包括松隆子、常盤貴子兩大女星以及當紅偶像瑛士。When eleven-year-old Wataru is told he can change his destiny by entering a magic gateway into another world, he jumps at the chance. But on his quest to find the Tower of Fortune and be granted any wish, he must conjure up all his bravery to battle a world of demons, his own friends and ultimately himself.

這是個從各國搜羅到關於怪獸的動畫短片單元，有平易近人可愛的怪獸，也有鬼魅般可怕的怪獸，有無形的，也有變化多端的，還有需要工作、找女朋友的怪獸。這個單元也將教導你如何擊退怪獸，如扯開嗓門高歌等等……

(4)雷•哈利豪森的怪獸朋友Monstrous Creatures in Ray Harryhausen’s Films
動畫影展特別規劃「雷哈利豪森的怪獸朋友們」單元，匯集到奇幻電影鼻祖雷•哈利豪森一整套影片來到台灣，若想知道影響「星際大戰」系列導演喬治魯卡斯、「魔戒」與「金剛」導演彼得傑克森甚深的靈魂人物是誰，就不應該錯過這次動畫影展。
十六歲的雷•哈利豪森第一次看到《金剛(King Kong), 1933》就極為喜愛，開始著手製造模型，拍攝停格動畫。之後進入南加大研究攝影，並開始拍攝第一部停格動畫長片《進化論》。戰後哈利豪森開始拍攝一系列童話故事片《鵝媽媽故事》。1946年《金剛》的創造者 Wills O’Brien僱用哈利豪森協助《巨猩喬揚》的停格動畫製作，本片榮獲1949年奧斯卡最佳特效獎。1950年代與Schneer 合作的三部影片讓他開始發展藝術風格、在停格動畫領域進行創新，開始逐漸贏得好評。
1950年代末期，哈利豪森與Schneer合作，朝神話、傳奇、奇想的方向發展。1958年的幻想冒險片《辛巴達七航妖島(The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad)》中的獨眼龍、雙頭鳥、與火龍，令觀眾驚訝與讚嘆不已，大受歡迎，後來遂拍成一系列的辛巴達電影，直到1977年的最後一部系列電影《辛巴達穿破猛虎眼》，其中有許多令人懷念的經典畫面，甚至影響到「星際大戰」系列電影導演喬治魯卡斯、魔戒三部曲與金剛的金獎大導演彼得傑克森等人。
哈利豪森繼續拍攝停格動畫，直到1981年的《世紀封神榜》最後封箱作品。1992年，雷•哈利豪森獲得奧斯卡獎頒發終身成就獎。2007台灣國際動畫影展不但將展出雷•哈利豪森的鵝媽媽系列童話故事集、動畫長片1974年的《辛巴達金航記(The Golden Voyage of Sinbad)》，並與美國停格動畫百年紀念協會共同頒贈雷•哈利豪森「終身成就獎」。
Born in Los Angeles, June 29, 1920, Ray Harryhausen was educated at Audubon Junior High and Manual Arts High School. School held little interest for him, but at an early age he conceived an overwhelming passion for the film King Kong, a fascination which became the basis of his future life.
Ray was a master of his medium, applying skills as diverse as sculpture, illustration, painting, optics, history, and acting. Take any of his best-known creatures - The sword-fighting skeletons in Jason and the Argonauts (1963), the Cyclops from The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad (1974), or 1981's Clash of the Titan's Medusa, for example. Ray conceived and designed each shot; sculpted, cast in latex around an articulated metal armature, painted and detailed the stop-motion puppet; staged and lit a miniature set of his construction; and infused it with poetic animation.

鵝媽媽系列人物動作細膩，表情生動，是一般偶動畫所少見，展現大師早年停格動畫之功力，採用先用字卡，再出現影像，適合大小朋友一起觀賞。而童話系列比鵝媽媽長度更長、難度更高、停格動畫技巧更加進步。布景華麗，採取旁白配音，人物動作、表情細膩生動。

開幕片 Opening Film：太陽公主La Reine soleil (法)
《雨國之子》(The Rain Children)導演菲利普•雷格雷克最新動畫力作《太陽公主》，改編自法國小說家克里斯提昂•賈克(Christian Jacq)同名小說，融合了歷史事實與傳奇神秘感，藉由精巧的動畫呈現出埃及特有的景色，同時見證埃及王朝的興衰變化。

國寶總動員Adventures in the NPM (台)
日落之後，華燈初上，故宮閉館後，展廳內的文物逐漸甦醒過來，彼此把酒高歌，或者閒話家常，或者追逐嬉戲…。故事起源於片中的三個主角－嬰兒枕、玉鴨、玉辟邪，三個經常玩在一起的好友，因為一次的嘻鬧中，弄丟了翠玉白菜上的螽斯，一場追捕螽斯的旅程就此展開…。
Nighttime approaches the National Palace Museum. The final visitor has been ushered out and its workers have locked all the doors and left as well. All should be peace and quiet…if it weren’t for the fact that at this moment all the objects and pieces in the museum have begun to wake up and are ready to start another night of adventures…
大象將軍Khan Kluay(泰)
泰國第一部3D電腦動畫長片，根據泰國歷史上一隻在重要戰役得勝的大象故事改編，那隻象也成為泰國歷史上最重要的象，並有封號。故事是一隻長在森林裡的頑皮小象，為了尋找父親展開旅程，讓他學會許多事，並受訓成為一頭戰象。3D電腦繪圖層次豐富，擬人化的象群造型可愛，打鬥場面逼真寫實，泰國風景、舞蹈皆入鏡，呈現泰國的風景、文化與反戰思想。
Khan Kluay is the story of a curious, naughty young elephant growing up independent in deep forest whose insatiable curiosity in regard to his missing father sets him on a journey to a great adventure. The many obstacles and difficulties that he encounters throughout the journey make him strong and the lessons he learns turn him into a brave, proud elephant full of energy but yet very gentle at heart.

本次動畫影展特別跟美國停格動畫百年紀念協會合辦「停格動畫饗宴」，除了國際停格動畫精選與台灣停格動畫精選外，還邀請到被譽為是黏土動畫界「華特迪士尼」的Will Vinton作品全集來台獻映。看過麥可傑克森真人演出與偶動畫一同比舞嘛？由Will Vinton設計的一部麥可的MV，畫面中偶動畫的流利舞蹈動作將讓你大嘆Will Vinton是天才。
維爾•文頓的黏土動畫Claymation by WILL VINTON
維爾•文頓1948年出生於美國奧勒崗州，於加州柏克萊大學研讀物理、建築以及電影，取得建築學位後到製片公司擔任導演，也兼任編劇、電影美術設計、剪接。在西班牙雕刻家Antoni Gaudi的工作室裡開始接觸黏土動畫，由於喜歡黏土，更因本身多樣的才華，他創作許多深具個人風格，獨具創意的黏土動畫作品。
他的作品4次入圍奧斯卡獎，並多次榮獲艾美獎，1975年他以和鮑柏卡汀若合製的動畫短片「星期天休館」榮獲奧斯卡最佳動畫，之後他成立威爾賓頓工作室，製作許多膾炙人口的電視影片以及動畫電影，包含The California Raisins、 M&Ms "Red" and "Yellow"、"THE PJs" for The WB ,and "GARY AND MIKE" for UPN. 由於其作品產值驚人，被譽為是黏土動畫界的華特迪士尼。
Will Vinton, a director and producer of animated films, was born in 1948 in McMinnville, Oregon and won an Oscar for CLOSED MONDAYS in 1975, a clay animated short he co-created with Bob Gardiner.
He enrolled at the University of California in Berkeley to pursue studies in physics, architecture and filmmaking. Fascinated by the fluid designs created in clay similar to the work of Spanish sculptural architect Antoni Gaudi, Will began experimenting with clay animation.
Then He founded Will Vinton Productions and has created, directed and produced some of the best know animated characters in the world, including The California Raisins and the "CG" ("Computer Animated") M&Ms "Red" and "Yellow". He produced the acclaimed television series "THE PJs" for The WB, and "GARY AND MIKE" for UPN. He has received four additional Academy Award Nominations and won numerous Emmys.
台灣停格動畫精選 Taiwan Stop Motion Retro
由石昌杰老師協助策展，特別著重選映九O年代以後的各種創作面貌，可以看到在缺乏專業片場的現實環境下尋求突破的創作途徑，完整呈現台灣偶動畫與停格動畫發展，相當值得關心台灣偶動畫發展的朋友前來互相觀摩。
>導演專題 Featured Director：保羅•維斯特Paul Vester
英國出生的保羅•維斯特所創作的動畫極具實驗色彩，作品曾獲多項國際獎項，並獲古根漢獎助金贊助創作動畫。1973年在倫敦成立自己的動畫工作室 Speedy Films，執導的第一部短片《陽光之上》。1997年起他移居洛杉磯，開始拍攝動畫廣告片，同年他為綠洲合唱團拍攝的音樂錄影帶"All Around the World"獲得葛萊美獎提名，並開始在南加大、加州藝術學院擔任客座教授，目前任教於加州藝術學院實驗動畫系。
作品綜合多種動畫技巧，手繪、電腦動畫、真人演出、賽璐珞、鉛筆畫、素描、速寫等；動畫風格極為多元，運鏡流暢、色彩運用豐富。每部動畫都有特定實驗之風格，如《陽光之上》是對迪士尼之前的古典賽璐珞動畫的致敬，以1940年代著名歌曲"What's at the Top of a Sunbeam"為配樂；1999年《外星人綁架實錄》則使用混合媒材和真人動畫；《野餐》結合平面攝影與電腦動畫；2007最新完成的影片 In the Woods則混合使用 2D與3D電腦動畫。
British-born Paul Vester is an experimental animator whose short films have netted him many international prizes as well as a Guggenheim Fellowship. He is working on his new film, IN THE WOODS, a mix of 2D and 3D digital animation.
At his own studio, Speedy Films, Vester directed his first film, SUNBEAM, an homage to pre-Disney classic cel animation set to a popular song of the 1940s. Vester’s another award-winning film ABDUCTEES, was a blend of mixed media animation and live-action retelling stories of UFO alien abductions, . Once he moved to the U.S. he started commercial works, including spots for such companies as Toshiba, Hershey, Jell-O and Bubblicious.
He also served as the animation director of the Grammy-nominated music video for Oasis' "All Around the World."

“Sinkin' in the Bathtub” was the very first Warner Bros. theatrical cartoon short as well as the very first of the Looney Tunes series. Walt Disney supplies Mickey's voice in this black & white cartoon “Mickey’s Nightmare”.
The 1932 cartoon "Minnie the Moocher" is a description of the Betty Boop, including the lyrics to Cab Calloway's song. Perfect use of the song with the right character and the results are an excellent short. “Merry Old Soul” is the first Walter Lantz cartoon to be nominated for an Academy Award.
年度國家 Nations in Focus
台灣觀眾目前接觸動畫來源最多的國家除了韓國、日本與美國外，就是法國、德國或英國等歐洲國家。今年策展人Sharon Wu特地蒐集了拉丁語系國度的西班牙與智利動畫，介紹給台灣民眾觀賞。
西班牙Animation from Spain
西班牙藝術的氛圍猶如該國熱情洋溢的性格，瀰漫在動畫風格上。不論是傳統手繪動畫、偶動畫，或是電腦動畫，都有極高的藝術成就。以「迷走畢卡索」為例，創作者以偶動畫方式呈現畢卡索名畫「格爾尼卡」，讓大家走入畫中世界。
過去台灣民眾沒有機會看到西班牙動畫多樣的風情，這次讓你一次看個夠！
智利 Chilean Animation
智利部分動畫受到西班牙風格影響，然而風土民情不同，些許動畫影片也以隱喻的方式，嘲諷資本強權國家的侵略(我愛香蕉, Republica Banna )，或是藉由智利最後一個獵人的故事，感嘆該國古老技藝的消逝(石之子, El Nino En La Piedra)。
除了適合闔家觀賞的童趣短片外，智利動畫另有成人情色作品，其大膽線條與流暢筆法，讓人足以感受熱力四射的拉丁風情。

This is an animated feature film using the Pixilation technique. This offbeat love story is based on a ninth century Chinese variant of the fairy tale Cinderella, set in a massage parlor in modern-day New York’s Chinatown. This fairy tale is narrated by a magical carp.

“Mazu” is the traditional myth greatly told across Taiwan Strait. Mazu was sent by the God of Grace and was born into human form in a local fisherman’s family. She was given power to stop evil mutation from the sea to hurting the fishermen in the village.

「封神榜」以中國神話故事為腳本，片中人鬼神妖「現形方式」千變萬化，可以約略看出當時台灣為迪士尼等國外動畫公司加工的筆觸。七零年代的銀幕英雄李小龍在影片中則化身為萬能神，在蔡志忠的筆下，成了本動畫片的另類英雄。

台灣動畫獎競賽：38部入圍競賽影片Taiwan Competition: 38 Nominated
為推動動畫藝術文化，行政院新聞局已經連續五年補助國家電影資料館舉辦國際動畫影展，展出一系列國內外動畫作品。動畫影展更自去年起設立「台灣動畫獎」競賽單元，鼓勵國人進行動畫影像藝術創作，提升國內動畫影像創作之內涵與水準。
「台灣動畫獎」獎項包括(1) TIAF大獎、(2)台灣動畫金獎、(3)科技藝術金獎、(4)美術創意金獎、(5)幽默原創金獎、(6)學生動畫金獎、(7)評審團特別獎等七項大獎，獎金總額更達新台幣一百萬元，希望每年都能吸引許多動畫創作者參與競賽。
今年的「台灣動畫獎」競賽總計有235部報名，經過國立雲林科技大學數位媒體設計中心主任邱怡仁副教授、韓國ASIFA主席Nelson K. SHIN、首映創意股份有限公司楊紹昌主任、迪士尼知名動畫角色創造者張振益先生、以及動畫學者Dartmouth大學教授David EHRLICH等五位國內外評審評選，僅選出38部影片入圍，顯見戰況相當激烈。
除了期盼透過舉辦影展以促進國際交流外，國家電影資料館更希望透過影展活動，對台灣動畫影像藝術與產業的發展有所助益，因此邀請謝志偉局長親自公佈本屆「台灣動畫獎」競賽的入圍名單。

2007台灣國際動畫影展最大特色之一是將短片動畫集分成各種不同主題，有23個主題短片單元，包括關於旅程記憶的「虛擬遊記」篇、跟「工作」有關的「上班一族」篇、描述動物世界的「動•物園」篇、描繪互動與感受的「你我之間」篇，以及充滿神話傳奇色彩的「童話傳說」篇等等。
